Objective
Determination of corrosion growth rates which are a critical factor in establishing the remaining safe working life, timescales for future repairs and re-inspection intervals
Issue
ROSEN provides services for corrosion growth rate calculations based on two distinct approaches.
1. Determination of corrosion growth based on pipeline operating conditions
Where no previous in-line inspection data is available, ROSEN uses standard industry predictive models combined with corrosion engineering experience to calculate internal corrosion growth rates. Several models can be applied, including:
- De Waard-Milliams (carbon dioxide (CO2) based corrosion model)
- NORSOK model (refined version of de Waard-Milliams model)
2. Determination of corrosion growth based on In-line Inspection (ILI) Data
Where previous in-line inspection data is available, data from different inspection runs can be used to determine actual corrosion growth rates which are then compared with standard industry predictive models. Both internal and external corrosion can be assessed. The determined corrosion growth rates can be used to assess the effectiveness of current integrity and corrosion management activities in order to optimize future IMR activities.
ROSEN can make such comparisons on the basis of both its own data or that of other vendors.
Deliverables
Calculation of the corrosion growth rate for features along the length of a pipeline as a basis for future IMR activities.
