A majority of offshore pipelines are inspected by means of MFL technology, but the minimum feature size that can be detected by this method is not always sufficient, especially with regard to monitoring corrosion growth over time.
In response to this situation, ROSEN has developed a sensor technology called Shallow Internal Corrosion (SIC). Based on the Eddy Current (EC) principle, SIC reveals internal features as shallow as 1 mm with an accuracy of ± 0.5 mm. To ensure that any other features present in the pipeline are detected as well, ROSEN combines its SIC technology with the high-resolution MFL technology. The ROSEN Combined MFL/SIC Detection Tool (RoCorr·MFL/SIC) effectively identifies areas of metal loss affecting the inner pipe wall, reliably detecting internal corrosion even if it is covered by internal flow coating.
