The Electronic Pig Detector (EPD) is a complete system for tracking and locating pipeline tools based on pulsed ELF (extremely low frequency) electromagnetic field transmission which can be received outside steel pipelines. The system is independent of the pipeline medium, and it works equally well in all liquids, e.g. crude oil, water and refined products, and in gases such as methane, air, nitrogen, etc.

The EPD receives the signal transmitted by any ROSEN tool location transmitter (or equivalent). Its key features are:

• External antenna with carrying handle
• Digital filtering of signals to eliminate disturbance from other sources
• Audio signal
• Digital display showing recorded tool passage time for unattended operations
• Analog display of signal pulse strength for precise tool location (accuracy +/- 15 % of pipeline depth) and pipeline depth measurements
• Storage of up to 10 passage times, with download option
• Push-button operated menu for setting time, receiver mode, automatic or manual gain, battery check and for reading out data

The EPD is supplied in an aluminum transport case. Different underwater receiver systems complement the range of tool-tracking equipment.
